(KNZA)--An Ozawkie man convicted on charges in connection with a shooting in Holton last October has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller tells MSC News that 24-year-old Joshua Myers was sentenced Friday in Jackson County District Court on charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling.
Miller says Myers is to surrender himself to start serving his sentence on November 30th at noon.
Once his sentence is served, she says Myers will be on parole for 12 months. In addition, Miller says he will be required to register as a violent offender for 15 years.
Myers pleaded no contest to the reduced charges last month.
He had originally been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Authorities say Myers fired a handgun from his vehicle at another man who was standing across the street from him at the intersection of 5th and Arizona in Holton the evening of October 23rd. The intended victim was not hurt.
Myers was arrested about ten minutes later in Denison by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department after fleeing the scene.
