(KLZA)--Southeast Community College is finalizing its first lease of space for the first in a series of learning centers being planned across the school’s 15-county service territory. Beatrice campus president Bob Morgan says the York City Council has approved the lease, allowing S-C-C to use space in a local convention center.
The college will lease three rooms and office space for about 17-hundred dollars a month for 18-months.
Morgan says two more such centers are in the preliminary stages in Nebraska City and Plattsmouth. Both will be located in the downtown area and will require some renovation.
The goal is to be able to offer credit and non-credit courses so people across the 15-county area won't have to drive more than 30 or so miles to reach a campus or learning center.
Morgan says the learning centers should lead to increased enrollment at the community college and offer greater access to opportunities in higher education.
A learning center is also planned for Falls City. The search for a location for the Falls City training center in ongoing at the present time.
