(KLZA)--Two men face charges in Pawnee County for allegedly assaulting a man earlier this month.
32-year-old Derek Hansher, of Pawnee City, and 38-year-old Cory Kamprath, of Seward, have each been charged with second-degree assault.
According to court documents, the two men are accused of taking a man believed to be responsible for the theft of a commercial riding lawn mower owned by Hansher to a rural Pawnee County location on December 8th and assaulting him.
The two men allegedly struck the man repeatedly with a hammer, metal flashlight and wooden post causing serious lacerations. A family member of the man allegedly attempted to intervene and was also struck.
Hansher had reported the theft of the lawn mower to the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office on December 2nd.
The Beatrice Daily Sun reports Hansher was arrested December 9th in Gage County following about a three hour search by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Saline County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals.
Gage County residents were warned through an alert on the Gage County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page to stay inside until the suspect was captured.
Hansher’s bond was set at $10,000 during a recent appearance in Pawnee County Court.
