(KAIR)--Longtime Atchison Fire Chief Mike McDermed is on a leave of absence, meaning a temporary change of leadership for the department.
City Manager Trey Cocking says Captain Ted Graf has been named Interim Fire Chief in McDermed's absence.
Cocking says McDermed is on medical leave for undisclosed reasons, appointing Graf to serve in the interim role.
McDermed, a 40-year veteran of the department, has served as Fire Chief since 1981.
