New Seneca Police Officer Hired

(KMZA)--A new Seneca police officer has been hired.

Following an executive session Wednesday evening, the City Council voted to hire Dillon Blevins, of Seneca, to fill a vacancy at a starting salary of $14.50.

City Administrator Matt Rehder says Blevins studied law enforcement at Washburn University after graduating from high school.

Rehder says Blevins won't actually start work until April 11th, 2016, and will be attending the Kansas Law Enforcement Academy in Hutchinson beginning April 18th.

Once Blevins completes his training in August, Rehder says the police department will be at once again at full staff, which is five officers, if nothing changes between now and then.

In other business, Rehder told the Council that curb and gutter work has resumed around the city after the bad weather that occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Rehder said because they didn't start until November and the winter weather, the work will probably not be complete until the spring.
