(KNZA)--Icy conditions are being blamed for an early Friday morning northern Jackson County head-on crash that sent several to the hospital.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says it happened shortly before 1:45 at the Muddy Creek Bridge, north of 318th Road, on U.S. Highway 75.
It was there that Hartlingten, Texas resident Saul Hernandez Casotreno, lost control of his northbound Ford Mustang on the icy bridge. That caused the car to smash head-on into a southbound Honda Acura, driven by John Curtis Owens, of Topeka.
Morse says Owens was extricated from the wreckage, and four people, all occupants of the vehicles, were transported by Jackson County EMS to area hospitals for the treatment of what Morse calls non-incapacitating injuries.
The affected stretch of U.S. Highway 75 was closed until the highway was cleared of the wreckage and the ice on the bridge was treated.
Fire Departments from Netawaka, Whiting, and Holton, all assisted at the scene, as well as first responding units from Brown County, including EMS units from Horton and Fairview, as well as Fire Departments from Horton, Powhattan, and the Kickapoo Tribal.
