(KNZA)--The man wanted in connection with a Jackson County stabbing that sent the victim to the hospital is now in custody.
Sheriff Tim Morse says 22-year-old Austin Lee Whitebird was apprehended by Deputies south of Holton Tuesday evening.
Morse says the investigation began when his office received a report around 11:00 Monday night that a 26-year-old man was being treated for life-threatening injuries at the Holton Hospital as the result of multiple stab wounds. The victim was later transferred to a Topeka Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Whitebird was named as a suspect in the stabbing that Morse says occurred at 123 New York Street in Holton.
Whitebird, facing a charge of aggravated battery, is held in the Jackson County Jail on a bond of $50,000.
Morse says his arrest followed a thorough search, with deputies stopping a vehicle carrying Whitebird, who was apparently attempting to make his way to Kansas City.
Whitebird has connections to the Kickapoo Reservation and the City of Horton, and may also have ties to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation in Mayetta.
