Residential Fire Displaces Atchison Family

(KAIR)--No injuries reported, but an Atchison family was displaced from their home after a small fire Sunday afternoon.

Fire Department Captain Ron Pennington says crews were called to the scene of the residence, located in the 700 block of R Street, shortly after 4:30. Upon arrival, smoke was detected inside the home, and a fire was located inside the kitchen area, extending up into the attic. 

The fire was quickly extinguished, and crews were able to leave the scene just after 6:15.

Pennington says the fire was likely caused by an electrical malfunction. Westar Energy was contacted, and power was cut to the home, displacing the residents.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family with basic needs.
