Checkpoint Sunday Stops Atchison Bound Motorists
11/22/2015

(KAIR)--There's no immediate word from the Missouri Department of Conservation regarding the specific reason for a poaching checkpoint staged east of Atchison, Kansas Sunday morning.

According to motorists who were stopped, the checkpoint was conducted in the Buchanan County community of Winthrop, and involved both the Department of Conversation and the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office. Apparently, all vehicles en route from Missouri into Atchison, Kansas, on U.S. Highway 59, were stopped, and questioned as to whether they had been hunting or fishing and if they were transporting any wildlife.

It's not immediately clear if any particular incident led to the checkpoint, and whether any arrests were made.

KAIR Radio News has reached out to the Missouri Department of Conservation and is awaiting details related to the matter.
