Atchison City Commission Approves Floodgate Project
11/17/2015

(KAIR)--The Atchison City Commission, during a meeting Monday afternoon,  moved forward with plans for a new floodgate control project in the city.

City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont presented commissioners with a proposed construction contract with the Foley Company for the construction project, for an amount of just under $500,000. He says that back in 2011, the city of Atchison, for 94 straight days, deposited everything in our sewer system directly in to the Missouri River. This project is aimed at correcting that problem. This is a project that is specifically mentioned in the consent agreement that we have with KDHE, which we have to follow, so its the project that aims at eliminating dry weather combined sewer overflows. Which is the highers possible priority for KDHE as we work to re mediate our combined sewers over the next twenty years.”

Commissioners voted 3-2 to approved the contract, with Commissioners Larry Purcell and Charlie Purdue voting against it.
