(KNZA)--Brown County will have to send out eleven-hundred corrected property tax statements due to a levy error made by Nemaha County.
County Treasurer Cheryl Lippold met with the Brown County Commission Monday to discuss the matter.
Lippold said the county was informed last week of the error after Brown County had already sent out its tax statements. The error was in the levies for the USD 113 supplemental general fund, Nemaha/Brown Watershed District #7, Sabetha Library and Library employee benefits.
The error, amounting to just over $1,000, affects all of Morrill Township and parts of Hamlin, Walnut and Powhattan Townships in Brown County.
The Commission voted to send a letter to Nemaha County requesting that they pay the postage for the corrected tax statements that will have to be sent out.
In other business, County Clerk Melissa Gormley introduced new payroll clerk Cathy Nigus to Commissioners. Nigus, who began work Monday, was among six applicants for the position.
