(KNZA)--A proposed walking trail in the City of Sabetha has taken another step forward.
Sabetha City Administrator Doug Allen says the City Commission this week voted to proceed with a grant application for the proposed project.
A grant will be sought through the Kansas Department of Transportation that, if approved, would fund 80 percent of the construction cost of the 1st phase of the trail. The project has been estimated at $1.3 million.
The Nemaha County Commission Monday signed a letter of support for the grant application.
Allen says the trail would run from Main Street to the Sabetha Sports Complex and make a loop around the complex.
The community group, Grow Sabetha, has been pursing the project since the results of a community survey indicated that a walking trail was desired by residents.
