(KNZA)--It's been dubbed the “Jackson County Challenge,” with an anonymous supporter of the KANZA Mental Health Foundation offering to match each dollar others give to help expand the mental health services provided locally by KANZA Mental Health and Guidance Center. KANZA Mental Health CEO David Elsbury tells MSC News he was surprised when he learned about the donor's plan. “I was kind of taken aback for a moment. It was hard to believe,” Elsbury says. “I know this donor personally and they have been very supportive over the years. They're asking folks in Jackson County to step forward and become a part of this.”
Elsbury says the donor will match each dollar donated, up to $10,000, with the funds to be used for the expansion of the agency's recently purchased new facility in Holton. [It's] the old hospital building, called the Moser Building, at 5th and Kansas Avenue, in Holton, that we will renovate to hold all of our services, from two different locations, at one site. It will give us the space to continue to add staff and expand our services in Jackson County to help the citizens there.”
Donations can be sent to PO Box 319 in Hiawatha.
The deadline is December 31st.
