(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City Council received an update from Jerry Graham on the cleanup process of two buildings in downtown Pawnee City that burned in October.
Graham has made progress on cleaning debris out of the buildings and continues to work on that. City Clerk Tammy Stephens said Graham has received quotes for demolition of the structures on the properties from two professional demolition companies. One bid is for $63,500 and the other is $94,321.
Estimates are also being sought for possible asbestos removal from the site.
The demolition work would include taking down the back walls, the roof, shoring up the front wall of the buildings and clearing the rest of the debris.
In other business the Council voted 3-1 with Councilman John Dahlgren casting the dissenting vote to purchase a new Caterpillar Front End Loader from NMC in Lincoln. The price will be $119,380. Pawnee City will be allowed a $23,000 trade-in on the Komatsu loader. Repair costs to the current loader are estimated to be in excess of $20,000. In all four bids were received.
