(Nebraska Radio Network)-- The weather is turning cooler and pests that we typically find outdoors are now heading inside to keep warm. University of Nebraska - Lincoln Extension Entomology Associate Jim Kalisch says that includes various kinds of spiders. He says one they get a lot of calls on are the wolf spider and the brown recluse.
The wolf spider is large and hairy but they are not poisonous. The brown recluse generally is not found in homes. They are more likely to be found in industrial settings and apartment complexes.
Kalisch says there are other types of smaller spiders that are not dangerous that head indoors in the fall. He says one of the best ways to prevent these pests from entering is to make sure to weatherproof, reduce clutter both outside and indoors and use an insecticide if necessary.
