(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has approved an engineering agreement for a bridge project about five miles northeast of Fairview.
The Commission Monday approved an agreement with BG Consultants, of Manhattan, to prepare the design plans and do the surveying work for the replacement of the bridge on Falcon Road over Mulberry Creek for a total cost of nearly $73,000.
It was the consensus of the Commission that the project should be let next July, with an October starting date.
The project has been selected by the Kansas Department of Transportation for funding through the Federal-Aid Off-System Bridge Program for fiscal year 2017.
Federal funding will pay for 80 percent of the construction cost, or $361,000.
Commissioner Warren Ploeger also informed the Commission that county crews this week plan to remove a truss bridge on Bittersweet Road near 175th Road.
The county is receiving an additional $40,000 under a one-time KDOT program for the removal of the bridge, which the county plans to replace with a tube next spring.
