Maintenance Issues Dominate USD 415 Board Meeting

(KNZA)--Maintenance issues dominated discussion at this week’s Hiawatha USD 415 Board of Education meeting.

District Maintenance Director Matt Cluck addressed a number of issues that have developed in recent weeks, including the break of an underground water line at the football field, failure of a high school refrigerator, and the needed replacement of the elementary school walk-in freezer.

Cluck also informed the Board of several issues that need to be addressed at the district owned Hawthorne Place.

Following discussion, the board authorized Cluck to replace the high school refrigerator and freezer and to get bids for the replacement of the elementary school walk-in freezer.

It was also the consensus of the Board that Cluck should proceed with fixing the water line at the football field.

The district will also work to see the Hawthorne Place placed on the Historic Register, making it eligible for grant funding.

The Board also approved the replacement of nearly 35-hundred square feet of concrete sidewalk at the middle school and high school, along with 25 feet of curb at the high school.

The work is to be done the first part of November, conducted by J & B Contractors, of Hiawatha, for a total cost of more than $23,000.
