(KNZA)-- A Berryton, Kansas woman is dead, following a Friday morning Jackson County crash involving the van she was driving and a semi truck.
Killed in the wreck, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, is 59-year-old Phyllis Martin, who was driving the van northbound on U.S. Highway 75 when a semi truck, westbound on 134th Road, attempted to cross the highway. During the maneuver, the truck's trailer blocked the inside and half of the outside lane of Highway 75, with Martin's van colliding with the rear corner of the trailer.
The patrol says Martin was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi, identified as 70-year-old Hoyt resident Roger Gooderl, was also buckled up, and suffered no injuries.
Northbound traffic was diverted around the crash site from around 8:05 Friday morning until 1:45 in the afternoon.
Assisting the Patrol at the scene were the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County EMS and the Hoyt, Mayetta and Potawatomi Tribal Fire Departments.
