(KAIR)--Advance voting is currently underway for the upcoming special election in USD 377 on whether the school board should be granted the authority to increase the district's capital outlay levy.
Atchison County Clerk Pauline Lee says voters can cast an advance ballot in the county clerk's office during regular business hours through noon, October 5th.
You may also request to have an advance ballot be sent to you. An application form is available on the USD 377 web site. This Friday is the deadline for the county clerk's office to mail advance ballots, and they must be returned by 7 p.m. on election day, October 6th
If approved by voters, the school board would have the authority to collect up to 8 mills on annual basis for capital outlay purposes, which is the maximum allowed by state law. Currently, the USD 377 Board has the authority to levy up to 4 mills for the capital outlay fund.
