Editor's note: The following was submitted by Brown County Sheriff John Merchant
The Brown County Sheriffs office is pleased to announce the National
Prescription Drug Takeback Day will be September 26th from 10-2 at the
Sheriffs office in Hiawatha.
This is a nation wide program to collect and dispose of any unused,
unwanted or expired medications. The Brown County Sheriffs office will
collect these medications at any time day or night year round, but with
this nation wide effort, the medications collected will be turned over to
the DEA for proper disposal.
All medication collected is kept confidential and stored in a secure, locked evidence room until the DEA agent takes possession of the drugs. We are asking the public NOT to turn in injectables or needles of any kind due to the safety of the staff.
Please contact the Brown County Sheriffs office at any time with questions
you may have about this event.
Thank you all for your participation and support in removing these
unwanted, unused or expired medications out of our county.
