(KAIR)--A Rushville, Missouri church, that has stood for over 120 years, was destroyed by a fire Saturday morning.
Rushville Fire Chief Andrew Johnson says his department was notified of the fire shortly after 7:00 at the Short Creek Baptist Church.
Upon arrival, Johnson says firefighters found the church totally engulfed in smoke, and were unable to contain the fire in time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No one was in the building when the fire began.
The Rushville Fire Department was assisted by crews from Dearborn, Camden Point, West Platte, and Dekalb in fighting the fire.
The church had stood since 1895, and had about 10 to 15 regular members who attended services on Sunday.
Services were held Sunday in the church's parsonage.
