(KMZA)--Fund raising is underway to help in the restoration of the former Frankfort Grade School.
The building, which was built in 1902-1903, was used as a school until 1996 when it was sold to private individuals. While in private ownership, it fell into disrepair.
The Frankfort Development Trust, a non-profit 501c-3 group, obtained ownership in 2013 and has been working to restore the building.
The group has successfully secured funding to repair the roof, and is raising money for the next project---renovation of the front porch area. Once completed, the group plans for the building to be multi-use, and include a community center with children’s and community programming.
A charity golf tournament will be held Saturday, October 3 at Cool Springs Golf Course in Onaga to help raise funds for the restoration. Sponsors, donors, and players are being sought for the four-man scramble tournament.
For more information you can visit the group’s Facebook page, Frankfort Grade School, Frankfort, KS or call the Frankfort Area News at 785-292-4726
