Marysville Bond Issue Decision Coming

(KMZA)--Public meetings, focused on a possible bond issue for patrons of Marysville's USD 364 have wrapped up, meaning a decision regarding the issue must now be made.

The District held the Facilities Listening Tour to gain input from the public pertaining to a proposed $24.3 million bond issue that could go before voters as early as November.

On Wednesday evening, the issue will be discussed during a special meeting of the Board of Education planned for 6:00 at the Junior-Senior High Media Center.

During the session, a vote is expected on whether or not to move forward with placing the bond issue on the future ballot.

Prior to the decision, a report is expected to be made regarding the findings of the now complete public listening tour.

The possible bond issue stems from the results of a Facility Needs Assessment conducted by the school district’s architectural firm, Manhattan-based Ebert Mayo Design Group. The firm is recommending that about $22.5 million in immediate improvements be made to the district’s schools.

The overall improvements include a broad cross section of projects, ranging from a new gym to new classrooms and tornado shelters.

According to the Marysville Advocate, Board Members have the option to split the proposal into two ballot questions, allowing voters opposed to a new gym, for example, to still cast their ballot in favor of other improvements, such as classrooms and storm shelters.
