(KLZA)-- For the first time since September of last year the Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors is at full strength. Jenny Kearney of Nebraska City was sworn in June 11th as the 21st member of the Board. Kearney fills the vacancy created by the death of John Albrecht last September. She will serve through the end of 2016.
Preliminary discussions on the Fiscal Year 2016 budget were held and annual salary schedules were reviewed. A one percent cost-of-living increase was approved along with funds for merit and service increases. The total package of salary increases for all staff will result in just over a three percent increase above the amount budgeted last year. A resolution concerning the Districts retirement program was also approved. The resolution brings the program into compliance with the Pension Protection Act. No actual changes were made.
Groundwater rules as they pertain to irrigated acres listed on well permits were discussed. More discussion and investigation into potential updates to various sections of the rules will be held but no plans for changes are imminent.
Board members awarded the bid to graham Quality Contracting of Tecumseh to install fence at the Duck Creek Watershed site. Two well permits for Anthony and Janet Ahern in Richardson County were approved.
In other business a three-year extension to the contract with Judi Schmidt for janitorial services at the NRD’s office facilities were approved.
