(KMZA--The Nemaha Central USD 115 Board of Education has given the green light to the construction of a new press box at Thunderfield while also approving a financial donation to help with upgrades to Swisher Field.
Heidi Wolfgang has the details:
Superintendent Darrel Kohlman Monday evening updated the board about the press box project, which includes replacement of the current press box with a new larger two-story building.
It will be built with volunteer labor.
Kohlman said six area businesses have purchased on-site press box advertising for $3,000 each. He said that would leave the district with a $15,000 price tag for payment of the remainder of the estimated $33,000 project.
The board voted to accept the ad dollars and move forward with the project.
Kohlman also suggested the Board donate $10,000 for upgrades to Swisher Field owned by the city of Seneca, explaining the ballpark is undergoing upgrades by both the city and the American Legion.
The board approved the donation, which Kohlman said could go towards the cost of seeding and sodding the infield.
The city allows the school district to use the field at no cost.
