(KAIR)--Over one hundred high school students took part in Atchison County's annual celebration of Government day Tuesday, and officials are very happy with the outcome.
Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the event was the largest attended in the history of the celebration.
Students were able to hear a presentation from the Kansas Association of Counties on how local governments work. They were then split into groups and toured various county departments, learning how they are run as well.
The event was concluded with lunch, which Schuele says was supported with a lot of community support from groups such as the American Legion and the Atchison Elks.
The first Atchison County Government Day took place over fifty years ago.
