(KMZA)--Funding is available to new and existing small businesses in Nemaha County through the county’s micro-loan program.
Nancy Gafford, with the Rural Development Association of Northeast Kansas, presented the semi-annual micro-loan report to the Nemaha County Commission on Monday. Gafford said there are currently three loans in effect and $47,000 available for small business micro-loans.
Commissioners signed the report, which will be submitted to the Kansas Department of Commerce.
The micro-loan program was established in 2001 through a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant awarded to the county. Under the program, small businesses with five or fewer employees can apply for low-interest loans of up to $25,000 that may be used to buy real estate, equipment
In other business, the commission approved the appointment of Mary Doris Strathman and Sarah Hammes to the Nemaha County Council on Aging Board. County Senior Services Director Diane Younghans said there are two more open positions on the board.
Younghans also informed commissioners that they are transporting meals from Seneca to the Sabetha Nutrition Center daily. She said things are going well so far and she doesn’t need to hire any additional staff at this time
