(KTNC)--Officials continue to assess the damage from powerful storms that struck northwest Missouri Tuesday night.
The national weather service posted several tornado warnings for all or parts of Atchison, Holt, Harrison, and Nodaway counties, and five possible tornadoes were reported.
Holt County Presiding Commissioner, and Emergency Management Coordinator, Mark Sitherwood says the northeast corner of the county saw the most extensive damage. He says the National Weather Service has confirmed three tornadoes touched down in the Maitland area.
Sitherwood says the damage was mainly downed power lines, roof and window damage. Nodaway-Holt High School in Graham was closed Wednesday after the roof of a building was damaged.
Heavy rain in the northern part of the county has also swollen rivers and flooded roads. Some county roads in Holt County remained underwater late Wednesday morning, though most major highways were open.
Sitherwood says they’re monitoring the Little Tarkio and Big Tarkio Rivers, which are both rising. He says there were unconfirmed reports of a levee breach along the Little Tarkio south and east of Craig.
In Atchison County, the city of Tarkio lost power just before 6:00 p.m. as winds with sustained speeds of 70 miles-per-hour blew through.
Sitherwood says they were fortunate the damage wasn’t more extensive and there were no injuries or loss of life.
Flood warnings continue for several rivers, including the Tarkio River, the Missouri River at Brownville, Rulo, and St. Joseph, and the Nishnabotna River near Hamburg, Iowa.
