(KLZA)-- Richardson County Commissioners reviewed the 2014-15 fiscal year budget proposals when they met this week.
The proposed budget calls for a decrease in the levy to just over 35-cents per $100 of assessed valuation. That is down more than 2-cents from last years 37.4-cents, amounting to a 6.45-percent decrease.
The budget of expenditures is $270,529 higher, which is up 2-percent, totaling $12,780,038. The estimated tax asking is $357,090 higher than last year at $4,492,706. That represents an increase of 8.6-percent.
If approved as proposed, the taxes on a $100,000 valuation would decrease by just over $24.
Some significant changes in the budget are an additional $88,014 in the jail budget, totaling $367,462. That is due in part to Sheriff Houser putting on an additional jailer for safety reasons.
In the Sheriff’s Office budget the estimated expense is up $32,004. New vehicle expense has been added to the Sheriff’s Budget, which previously came out of the inheritance tax fund.
The Road and Bridge budget came in at $3,340,182. An increase of $63,333.
On budget that is expected to go down is Building and Grounds, which is projected to decrease by nearly $69,000.
A budget hearing will be scheduled after the rest of the reviews for various departments are completed.
In other business Sheriff Houser presented informal quotes for providing meals to the jail. Sunmart quoted $5.49 per meal, Hot Dish $5 per meal and Dickey’s Barbecue $7.50 per meal for the evening meal only.
The board voted to accept the informal quote from Hot Dish to provide the meals and deliver them to the jail for one year. Only lunch and supper are brought in. Breakfast is served in-house.
