(KAIR)--Democratic candidate Margie Wakefield, who is seeking to represent Kansas' Second District in the United States House of Representatives, stopped in Atchison Tuesday morning to get her message out to prospective voters.
Wakefield opened the meet and greet session by telling the just over a dozen people gathered that she wants to work with the people to be a voice for Kansas, and she had some good motivation to run for the office. She said that she is “so frustrated with the do nothing, just say no shutdown in Congress, and we need people to represent us that understand that we need to reach across the isle. We have to work with each other and offer solutions, and not just vote no on everything”.
Wakefield said that the concerns of Kansas farmers are important, and should be addressed more in Washington and that farmers have told her that they need the certainty that comes with the farm bill.
Wakefield address topics ranging from healthcare reform and Social Security to education. She says that Kansas schools need support at all levels from Pre Kindergarten all the way through the college level.
Wakefield, running unopposed in the August 5th primary election, is the presumptive challenger of Republican U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins in the November 4th general election.
