(KTNC) -- The Johnson-Brock School District’s building project took another step forward Monday. The school board voted to retain Housman construction as the contract manager for the project.
The company will oversee the sub-contractors that bid on the various parts of the project. Superintendent Jeff Koehler says they’re pulling together bids they’ve received for various portions of the project. He says they hope to begin construction soon after the ground thaws this spring.
In other business, Koehler says the school district has reached an agreement with the Village of Johnson for the school to lease ground north of the current school parking lot. The area contains old playground equipment and an old picnic shelter that the city no longer uses. Koehler says the school approached the village about leasing or purchasing the property, and they've reached agreement to allow the school to lease the area for one-dollar per year. Koehler says the school plans to clean the area and turn it into a parking lot.
The Johnson-Brock school board also approved the summer driver education tuition rate of $250, a $10 increase from last year. Koehler says the increase is to allow the district to cover expenses for the program. They also approved a contract with Tim Newman to teach driver education at a rate of $150 per student.
And the Johnson-Brock school board voted to extend the contract with K-12 principal Peyton Lewis through the 2014-2015 Contract year, with a three-percent salary increase.
