(KTNC) -- The Nemaha Natural Resources District is accepting letters of interest from applicants to fill a vacant board position in District 10, which includes Falls City.
The vacancy became official when the board accepted the resignation of longtime director Ted Godemann, who announced his resignation from the board in December. Since Godemann resigned within the first 19 months of his term, whoever is chosen to fill the vacancy will serve through the end of this year, and the remaining two years of the term will be filled through the general election process.
NRD Manager Bob Hilske updated the board this month on the upcoming election. The board consists of 21 members, with two each from 10 sub-districts and one at-large member.
One director from each of the 10 sub-districts is up for election every two years. This year, 11 four-year terms – including the at-large position – will be on the ballot along with two, two-year terms. In addition to the shortened term in sub-district 10, one position in sub-district 4 will also be included on the ballot for a two-year term since that was filled by appointment in the first 19 months of the term.
The filing deadline for incumbents to be included on the primary election ballot is February 18. The deadline for non-incumbents is March 3.
