Unemployment Down in Area NE KS Counties

(KNZA)--Unemployment was down in area Northeast Kansas counties in October.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the October unemployment rates Friday.

Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate at 2.8 percent, while Atchison County had the highest at 6.4 percent.  Elsewhere, Doniphan County’s unemployment rate in October was 6.3 percent; Jefferson, 6.2 percent; Leavenworth, 6.2 percent; Jackson, 4.8 percent; Pottawatomie, 4.5 percent; Brown, 4.2 percent; and Marshall, 3.2 percent.

All the unemployment rates were down from September, but were up from October 2012 in Atchison, Doniphan, Jefferson, and Pottawatomie Counties.

Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped slightly to 5.6 percent in October from the seasonally adjusted rate of 5.7 percent recorded in September.  The jobless rate was also 5.6 percent in October 2012.
