(KNZA)--Four Kansas lakes—including Atchison’s Warnock Lake--will remain on the health Warning and Advisory lists for harmful algae blooms until water sampling resumes next year.
Meanwhile, the Kansas Department Health and Environment says the health advisory has been lifted at Hiawatha City Lake as a result of the final 2013 season water sampling.
KDHE samples recreational bodies of water for blue-green algae, when alerted to a potential bloom during the season, which lasts from April 1 to Oct. 31.
During the 2013 season, 101 samples were taken from 24 lakes across Kansas. KDHE issued public health advisories or warnings for 16 lakes over the course of the season.
