(KTNC) - There are several opportunities for volunteers to lend a hand this fall at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
Three volunteer habitat restoration workdays are planned, with the first this Saturday and two others September 28 and October 26. Volunteers can work at Squaw Creek from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on those days.
The habitat restoration days offer the public a chance to help in the refuge’s efforts to improve wildlife habitat. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.
The September 28 workday falls on National Public Lands Day, which is the largest single volunteer event for public lands in the United States.
Squaw Creek officials also say that starting this fall refuge staff will work alongside volunteers to collect wildflower seed from 9:00 to 11:30 on Tuesday mornings. Seed collection parties will be held September 17 and 24.
The annual refuge wide fall volunteer workday is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Several projects are planned to beautify the refuge for visitors during the fall migration. Those include various facility, grounds, and trail maintenance projects. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.
Contact Wildlife Refuge Specialist Corey Kudrna at 660-442-3187 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays to register for the workdays or for more information.
Squaw Creek Refuge is located five miles south of Mound City on U.S. Highway 159.
