(KTNC) - The Johnson-Brock Board of Education approved the budget and tax request for the next year Monday night.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says the levy for the General Fund is 77-cents, which will generate approximately $2.4 million. The levy for the bond on the current building is six-cents, and the levy for the special building fund was increased by three cents to six-cents. (play audio :11)
The Special Building Fund Levy is being increased to allow the Johnson-Brock School District to build an addition to the current building.
The board approved the proposed budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year in the amount of just over $3.4 million.
The board also voted to recognize the Johnson-Brock Education Association as the collective bargaining agent for the district’s teachers for the 2015-2016 school year.
Koehler says he is exploring a system to track students who ride school buses. The electronic system by Edu-Logistics involves kids scanning a card when they get on or off the school bus, allowing the driver and school officials to know who is riding the school bus. (play audio :34)
The system is the same one being used in the Gretna School District.
Koehler says the district’s lunch program has also qualified for an incentive payment. (play audio :30)
Koehler says they hope to break ground on the new building addition sometime in early to mid-October.
