Elderly Leavenworth Man Federally Indicted

(KAIR) -- An elderly Leavenworth man has been federally indicted for failing to register as a sex offender.

According to the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, 72-year-old Lester Ray Nichols, is charged with failing to register as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

The crime is alleged to have occurred November 9, 2012.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
 
The FBI investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is prosecuting.
