(KLZA) With no discussion and no comment, Richardson County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the immediate resignation of County Attorney Bob Meyer.
Meyer submitted a letter of resignation last week to County Board Chairman David Sickel. He gave no reason for the resignation, but has been named in a lawsuit filed in Richardson County District Court. Meyer also has left his position with the Weaver & Merz Law Office in Falls City.
Meyer was elected as county attorney in 2010.
Later in the meeting, commissioners voted to advertise for applications for the position of county attorney to fill Meyer's unexpired term which runs until January 2015. Applications will be accepted until July 1st.
Deputy County Attorney Doug Merz met with Commissioners to discuss appointing an additional deputy county attorney, suggesting Johnson County Attorney Julie Smith be appointed temporarily.
Merz said that he would also be handling some of the court duties. Smith told the commission she feels they can handle both counties case loads through the end of July.
