Nemaha County Hospital CEO Discusses Technology, Rural Healthcare

(KTNC) - Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn celebrated its 50th anniversary Saturday. Marty Fattig has been the hospital’s CEO for the past 11 years, succeeding Glen Krueger, who served in that capacity from April 1971 to July 2002.
The hospital has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, and Fattig says the hospital is working to look to the future. (play audio :43)
Nemaha County Hospital has regularly been named one of the “most wired” hospitals in the nation, and is a part of the statewide tele-health network. The hospital purchased a new electronic medical record system shortly after Fattig arrived, and he says the technology is an important component of the hospital. (play audio :28)
Fattig says quality health care is key in rural Nebraska, and he serves on the Rural Health Advisory Commission. He says he’s working with the legislature on ways to attract primary care physicians to rural areas of the state – which he says will become more challenging as those doctors become more in demand with the implementation of health care reform. He says had a close working relationship with former First District State Senator – now Lieutenant Governor – Lavon Heidemann, and current Senator Dan Watermeier. (play audio :31)
Fattig was one of the speakers at Saturday’s celebration of the Nemaha County Hospital’s 50th anniversary, along with Lieutenant Governor Heidemann, Senator Watermeier, and Auburn Mayor Scott Kudrna.
