( KNZA )--Unemployment rates were down in area northeast Kansas counties last month.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the February figures today ( Friday ).
Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate in the area at 3.6 percent while Atchison County had the highest at 7.7 percent.
Elsewhere, the unemployment rate in Jefferson County stood at 7.6 percent in February; Leavenworth, 7.3 percent; Jackson, 6.4 percent; Doniphan, 6 percent; Brown, 5.6 percent; Pottawatomie, 5.1 percent; and Marshall, 4.4 percent.
The figures were up from February of last year in Atchison and Brown Counties, but down in the other counties.
Statewide, the Kansas jobless rate held steady last month at 5.5 percent, the same as in January but lower than in February 2012.
State Department of Labor Secretary Lana Gordon says Kansas added 2-thousand private sector jobs in February, continuing a string of four months of growth..
Since October the state has added more than 12-thousand private sector jobs.
