( KNZA )-- Northeast Kansas is expected to see its first winter storm in nearly two years Wednesday night.
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter storm warning for northeast Kansas from 6 o’clock Wednesday evening through 9 o’clock Thursday morning.
The weather service is calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow, with the highest amounts in extreme northern Kansas near the Nebraska border. The snow will combine with winds gusting up to 45 miles an hour, creating brief periods of near white out conditions.
For those traveling during the storm, the Kansas Highway Patrol suggests motorists ensure their vehicles are prepared for winter travel by replacing wiper blades and checking for good tread on tires and proper fluid levels. Adding a snow shovel and salt or sand in your trunk for weight and traction can also prevent motorists from getting stuck indefinitely.
