(KLZA) Newly elected members to the Auburn City Council were sworn in Monday night. New members sworn in were Rick Janssen, Tom Clark and Jeff Jeannerrett. Larry Holtzman was elected President of the Council for the next year.
Sherry Heskett was re-appointed City Clerk; Joe Casey City Treasurer; Angelo Ligouri City Attorney; Dyland Handley and Louie Ligouri as Assistant City Attorney’s; Dr. Gary Ensz as Physician; Glen Hogue as Building Inspector; Harry Bridgmon as Street Commissioner and Even Wickersham with JEO Consulting Group as City Engineer.
Mayor Scott Kudrna’s proposal to appoint Mitch Bishop and Jim Oestmann II to the 5 member Auburn Board of Public Works Board were unanimously turned down by the Council. Kudrna was proposing Bishop and Oestmann replace Mark Kubik and Doug Glenn on the Board. The Mayor said he wanted to make the changes due to his philosophy to look at cuts instead of increasing revenue. ( play audio :20 seconds )
Mayor Kudrna said he feels some of the water rates and sewer rates are out of proportion to other comparable municipalities. ( play audio :54 seconds )
The Mayor says improvements in recent years are responsible for some of the higher rates but he believes some changes are necessary. ( play audio :27 seconds )
With the appointments being denied, the Auburn City Attorney is now reviewing what happens with the appointments.
