Navajo Code Talker to Speak in Sabetha
( KNZA )-- A Navajo code talker will be giving a presentation in Sabetha next month.
Samuel Tom Holiday, who served as a code talker radioman in combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II, will give a presentation about his World War II experiences, which included the invasion of several Pacific islands.
His presentation will begin at 7 o’clock the evening of Saturday, November 17th in the Sabetha Middle School auditorium. The event is free to the public, and no ticket is required for admission.
"An Evening of History" is hosted by Sabetha VFW Memorial Post 7285 and is made possible thanks to generous contributions from local businesses. The evening will honor all area veterans.
Preceding the free presentation, a dinner will be served in the commons area of the school.
Organizers say they still have about 140 dinner tickets that are free to veterans.
Non-veterans can buy a dinner ticket for $15 each. The catered buffet dinner includes a choice of two entrees and a choice of two desserts. All proceeds will help pay for veterans' dinner tickets.
The deadline to purchase or reserve dinner tickets has been extended to Monday, Oct. 29.
To order tickets, please send your order, along with payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope, to The Sabetha Herald, ATTN: Patty Locher, P.O. Box 208, Sabetha, KS 66534. Make checks payable to Sabetha VFW Post 7285, and be sure to specify how many veterans' tickets and how many paid tickets you need, as well as how many of each entree you would like. The entree choices are marinated beef brisket or French chicken in cream sauce.
