Enrollment is up this school year in Nemaha Central USD 115.
Superintendent Darrel Kohlman presented the board of education with an enrollment update at this week’s meeting.
Kohlman said there are currently 644 students in preschool through 12th grades, which is an increase of slightly more than 40 students from last year.
The total full time equivalency is estimated at 586.7 students, which is up 12.9 students from one year ago.
FTE numbers are based on school enrollment as counted on September 20th, with weightings added to the student count to reflect additional costs associated with serving that student.
Kohlman said the weighted FTE, upon which the budget is based is down due to the loss of the new facilities weighting and lower free lunch students.
Discussion of the lower student weighted FTE and the impact this will have on the general fund budget when the district comes out of the four-year consolidation freeze was held.
At this point in time, the general fund budget will be about $870,000 less than the two districts combined general funds immediately prior to consolidation.
In other business, the board approved a change in the school calendar. Wednesday, October 17 was changed to a full in-service and work day for teachers, with no school for students. The date was originally a 12:15 dismissal for students.
