( KMZA )--The Prairie Hill’s USD 113 Board of Education has voted to hire an architect to finalize plans on a 75 by 125 foot building at the Axtell school site to house elementary students.
The board took the action at their regular meeting Monday evening.
Superintendent Bill Orth reviewed costs and presented a diagram of the proposed facility, which would have eight classrooms and two restrooms. The total cost for a modular facility was estimated at $1.1 million. That doesn’t include architect fees, which would be about $100,000.
Orth said an option other than modular units is to allow local contractors to be part of the bid process and bid a building. He said that option could possibly bring in lower costs to the district.
The board has voted to close the Summerfield Elementary School at the end of the current school year, with those students to attend school at Axtell. A committee has been looking at options for housing the additional students.
