10/08/2012

( KMZA )-- The Kansas Department of Transportation will hold a ribbon-cutting celebration Friday, October 12th for the U.S. Highway 77 Big Blue River bridge project in Marshall County and the unveiling of the signs for the 1st Lt. Michael High Breeding Memorial Bridge

The public is invited to the ceremony at 2 o’clock that afternoon at the new bridge deck near Blue Rapids.   Refreshments will be served

However, the bridge will not be opened at that time. Work is continuing on the project, and the bridge is scheduled to open in late October, depending on weather.

In the event of inclement weather, the dedication will be at the Blue Rapids Community Center on the Public Square.

Michael Breeding was the son of the late Merle and Blondie Breeding of  Blue Rapids. His brother, Pat, and Pat’s wife, Patty, from Salina, will attend the dedication.

After college graduation in 1967, he went on active duty with the Marines and trained to be a fighter pilot.  Breeding’s plane was shot down in South Vietnam on February 12th, 1970.  His body was never recovered.
