(KNZA)--A Highland Community College employee collides with an owl while driving; and, taking immediate action, Kevin Burleson rescues the Owl-now named Orval-and takes it for medical treatment.
Orval suffered a broken wing in the collision, and is now under the care of the not for profit organization, Operation WildLife, Inc., or OWL for short.
Based in the Leavenworth County community of Linwood, OWL is the only organization in the local region to help orphaned, injured and displaced wild animals.
It was founded in 1989 by current Executive Director Diane Johnson, RVT(Play Audio)
She says that growth, and a coincidental advertisement, is what led to the idea that became OWL(Play Audio)
Johnson says OWL, which provides service to nine Kansas counties, does not charge and receives no outside funding support, relying on the general public, and memberships, to keep the doors open(Play Audio)
Any type of monetary donation is accepted and can be done online, with Paypal, and can be contributed here
Meanwhile, Orval the Owl appears to be on the road to a strong recovery.
