08/24/2012

(KAIR) -- A 48-year-old Atchison man will head to prison after being sentenced on multiple charges Friday in Atchison County District Court.

Russell Vanwey was given 12 months in prison for the charge of attempted criminal threat.

He also got a six month jail term for a count of domestic battery to run concurrent to the prison sentence.

He will also have one year of post-release probation.

Vanwey was arrested July 30th at a local convenience store by Atchison Police after being located following a report of a disturbance earlier in the day where Vanwey struck his sister in the 1400 block of South 8th Street.

Vanwey also threatened his parole officer during that day, leaving a threatening voicemail at her office.

His pre-sentence report showed 33 prior adult convictions.
