Northeast Kansas Residents Injured in St. Joseph Crash
08/20/2012

Two northeast Kansas residents were injured in a three-vehicle accident in St. Joseph Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, on southbound Interstate 229 a quarter-mile north of Missouri Route 752 in the St. Joseph city limits.
The Missouri State Patrol says all three vehicles were southbound at the time of the accident.  The patrol says 33-year-old Kevin Lee of Wathena was driving a Chevy pickup and had slowed as he approached a John Deere Tractor being driven by Victor Neiderhauser of Filmore, Missouri.
A third vehicle, driven by 43-year-old James Kerns of St. Joseph struck the rear of Lee’s pickup, which then struck the tractor.
Both Lee and a passenger in his vehicle, 30-year-old Tyan Elder, also of Wathena, were taken by ambulance to the Heartland Regional Medical Center with injuries.  Lee’s injuries were described as minor, while Elder’s were more moderate in nature.  Both were wearing seat belts.
Neither Kerns nor Neiderhauser were injured.
