Longtime Horton USD 430 Board Member Resigns
08/14/2012

( KNZA )--A longtime local leader steps down.

That happened last night when the Board of Education for USD 430 accepted the resignation of longtime board member Venice Sloan.

The decision of the board was made public following a 45 minute executive session that came after a two hour open door meeting.

Sloan caused surprise last month when she stepped down as board president, nominating Tim McClaskey to fill that seat. While a reason for that decision was not stated, it was implied that Sloan simply wanted to become a regular board member, without the leadership responsibilities.

She had served as president of the Board for the South Brown County Schools since 2002.

Sloan was not in attendance during any portion of last night's school board meeting.  In her letter of resignation, Sloan wrote, "It's time to move on and let new young blood takeover."

The board will now have to appoint someone to fill Sloan's position on the board. The appointed individual will serve until July 2013, and may chose to run in the general election held in April of next year to fill the unexpired term which ends in 2015.
